Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 27) — Miss Grand International Philippines 2019 Samantha Lo has cut her reign short, she announced on Tuesday.

“She took off her crown...And thanked it for everything Left...so she could live. Miss Grand Philippines 2019 officially signing off. Maraming Salamat Pilipinas. Now I'm off to my new path,” said Lo in an Instagram post.

A month ago, the 26-year-old was embroiled in controversy involving travel issues on her way to the Grand International pageant in Venezuela. Lo was held up at the airport in Paris, France due to lack of a proper transit visa which she blamed her organizer for. However, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., which holds the Miss Grand International franchise, contradicted this, saying, Lo’s parents admitted her passport was fake. The Foreign Affairs Department also said Lo was not in its passport database.

Lo also failed to bag the crown following these events, ending her pageant run before making it to the top 20 list of contestants. Lo won her title as the country’s bet to the competition in June.
