Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The road to winning the country's first Olympic gold medal was not an easy one, according to weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz.

"Months before ng pagkapanalo ko, 'yung routine po ay kain, training, tulog...tapos nag-aaral din ako," she told CNN Philippines. "'Yung training ko nasa six to eight sessions a week, tapos may mga session ng yoga, sports psychology."

[Translation: Months before my win, my routine was eat, train, sleep...and I also study. I had sexi to eight training sessions a week, then I also have sessions in yoga and sports psychology.]

A vital part of her routine is her diet. The Olympic gold medalist said she makes sure she eats the right amount of everything she needs.

"Kumakain ako ng regular pero kailangan na measurable 'yung kinakain ko like eggs, bread, tapos may rice, then may steak. Doon pumapasok ang STAR Margarine," Diaz shared.

[Translation: I regularly eat but it has to be measurable like eggs, bread and rice, then steak. This is where STAR Margarine comes in.]

Diaz said STAR Margarine has been her partner in making her food more delicious and providing her the nutrients she needs to have the strength and energy during her preparations for the Olympics.

"Ang STAR Margarine part yan ng bawat Pilipino," she said. "Ako naaalala ko yung STAR Margarine may parang barbeque tapos may sugar. Iyon ang kinakain ko."

[Translation: STAR Margarine is part of every Filipino. I remember using STAR Margarine on barbecue then add sugar. That is what I eat.]

"Gusto kong mag-explore sa STAR Margarine na magluluto ako ng kamote tapos gagawin kong mashed kamote, tapos 'pag naggugulay ako," Diaz also said.

[Translation: I want to explore cooking with STAR Margarine like when I cook sweet potato and mash it, also vegetables.]

A household staple for many years now, STAR Margarine is not just delicious but also has Kid Power Nutrients that help in the overall growth and development of children.

It is fortified with 10 GROWTH-BUILDING NUTRIENTS: Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, D3, E, Folic Acid, Niacin, and Iodine. Moreover, it has no cholesterol and no trans fat.

The road to creating more 'STAR' athletes

Diaz said after her 2016 silver medal win in the Rio Olympics, she wanted to encourage more young Filipinos to follow her footsteps — or even be better than her. This pushed her to build a gym in her hometown in Zamboanga City where her dreams first started.

"Ngayon, I want to spread more awareness about weightlifting," she added.

STAR Margarine has committed to support Diaz in helping young weightlifting aspirants train for their very own gold medal.

This is in line with STAR's mission of helping parents provide their children with delicious and nutritious meals to support them in achieving their dreams.

"Kailangan mas marami pa, mas marami pang atletang maglalaro sa Olympics... Tutulong po ang STAR Margarine sa ganitong proyekto," Diaz said.

[Translation: We need more athletes to play in the Olympics. STAR Margarine will help in this project.]

As they make this dream into reality, the country's first Olympic gold medalist is reminding aspiring Olympians that they have to dream high and surround themselves with people who have the same goals as theirs.

"Walang magic diyan...kailangang pagtrabahuhan," she said. "Gaya ng nagawa ko, nanalo ako ng gold medal, kaya din nila 'yan."

[Translation: No magic there...you need to work for it. Just like what I did, I won a gold medal, and they can also do it.]

But the Olympic gold medal is not the only highlight of 2021 for Diaz after she recently announced her engagement to her partner and coach, Julius Naranjo.

Truly, this year is a golden year for this golden girl!
