Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 12) - The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said that Radio Television Malacañang's (RTVM) coverage of the gathering by lawmakers allied with Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco in Quezon City, does not reflect its stand on the ongoing speakership row.

“The RTVM coverage posted this morning on our social media accounts does not reflect PCOO’s position on the present political situation in the HOR [House of Representatives] or any partisanship on the matter,” Kris Ablan, PCOO assistant secretary for policy, legislative affairs, and freedom of information, said in a statement on Monday.

The PCOO explained that it just complied with the request of the lower chamber of Congress to cover the deliberations on the national budget for 2021.

It noted that a team from RTVM went to Batasang Pambansa to cover the resumption of session. However, the RTVM crew were informed to transfer to the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City, where Velasco took his oath to become the next Speaker of the House.

“Regardless of the present political climate within HOR, the RTVM has heeded to the request for such needed coverage,” said Ablan. “The PCOO and RTVM simply complied to the request for the coverage, with the promotion of factual information and transparency, especially on tax expenditures that concern all the Filipino taxpayers, in mind.”

Malacañang also said earlier that President Rodrigo Duterte won’t take any sides in the speakership dispute between Velasco and Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
