Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 21) — The Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), initially scheduled to be held in Thailand next March, have been moved to November 2023, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) confirmed on Thursday.

POC President Abraham Tolentino said the Olympic Council of Asia announced the games will push through on Nov. 17 to 26, 2023 after Thailand's government and its national Olympic committee sought postponement due to COVID-19 concerns.

The sixth edition of the AIMAG will be hosted by Bangkok and Chonburi province. It was earlier slated for March 10 to 19, 2022.

“The postponement would allow our athletes to be better prepared for the AIMAG, which ranks as one of the most important multi-sport competitions in the continent,” Tolentino said.

He also earlier bared the Philippines will send a 160-athlete delegation to compete in 21 of the 31 sports programmed by the Thai organizers.

The sports event is staged every four years. During the last AIMAG held in Turkmenistan in 2017, the Philippines took home two gold medals, 14 silvers, and 14 bronzes.
